Beginning a Journey Together
Sixteen incredible participants from across the country, including Colorado, California, Chicago, Maryland, New Jersey, New York City, Westchester, Staten Island, Brooklyn, and, of course, Israel, gathered to begin a journey together, some brand-new to youth philanthropy and others experienced veterans. From the very first moments, great conversations flowed, modeling the methods and adaptable spirit of the Honeycomb curriculum.
Exploring the ChangeMakers Curriculum
Over two days of intensive learning, practice, and collaboration, participants explored the four pathways of the ChangeMakers Curriculum: Setting Out, The Catalyst, The Journey, and Decision. Using consensus-building activities, including an engaging budgeting simulation, they unpacked the full scope and sequence of the program. The positivity, support, and communal feeling were evident from the start.
Jewish Values at the Core
Together, we examined justice issues, mitzvot, and the Jewish values that ground the work within the Honeycomb pedagogy. Each participant brought a unique perspective, enriching our collective understanding and modeling the kind of dynamic conversations youth philanthropy programs inspire. Discussions around how Jewish content is woven seamlessly through the curriculum, baked in rather than sprinkled on top, deepened our appreciation for its thoughtful design.
Creativity, Connection, and Community
An inspiring evening with the Jewish Studio Project invited us to meld Torah study and art, sparking new ways to connect learning with creativity. The next morning began with excitement as we debuted the brand-new Philanthropy Parsha Pack for the book of B’reishit, now available in our resources. We then welcomed Dr. Beth Cooper Benjamin, who guided us through meaningful strategies for recognizing and addressing perfectionism among teens, as well as how to cultivate resilience and challenge achievement culture.
By the end of the training, strangers had become colleagues and friends. The sense of community was tangible, proof that with educators like these, the next generation of ChangeMakers is in wonderful hands.
Looking Ahead
As we carry forward the themes of warm welcomes, togetherness, and creative beginnings inspired by B’reishit, the Jewish Studio Project, and Dr. Cooper Benjamin, we can’t wait to see these ideas take root in communities across the country.
We’re already looking forward to welcoming the next group of Jewish youth philanthropy professionals for Facilitator Training 2026 next year. Will you be there?
The Honeycomb Facilitator Training 2025 was made possible by the generous support of the Lodestar Foundation.
